About that -- I've been thinking about our monster halves. If we find 'em, then does it make us a bigger target for possession? Or maybe it'll give us the power to resist it?

I don't really see how making it stronger would help us resist it. [ but cloud has kind of a bias against. going with monster shit. ] Might not affect it that way either. So far, it at least looks like it only gets one out of a pair if they haven't matched. Not sure if that's the case if they are matched, though.
