Isn't that the kind of thing humans do? Not the eating part -- [well actually there are cannibals out there] but wanting to stay close to a loved one, even when they're gone.
To live in this world is to desire to be loved. To be loved in this world is to have a reason to exist -- a world you don't love isn't a world worth keeping. A world that doesn't love you isn't a world worth living in.
Anything with a functioning conscious is beholden to this curse.
