It never occurred to him to ask for things for himself, as much as Lavi likes books and accessories and food -- he's not so attached to any of those things that he needed them to survive his stay.
[Someone like Yuffie would probably yell at him about not being selfish, but Kanda just takes this in with a slight nod. It's not like he'd ever asked for anything personal either. He knows Lavi likes material things way more than he does (who doesn't), but it doesn't surprise him that Lavi had opted to be practical. He's always known that Lavi isn't as frivolous as he likes to seem.
