The bible had a lot of weird goat scripture. Not a religion I know. I think it's probably the cultists' religion. The trees in the swamp are sensitive to uh... magic and dimensional weaves or something, that's why the portals are there. They're awakened so that's why we can go to different places. And the swamp isn't evil. It's really old and really powerful magic that's neither good nor bad... it'll heal people on its own terms, but leave its mark on them.
...The 'mark' part's not really comforting. [NOO HE DIDN'T WANT TO SWAMP FOR THIS REASON.... he runs a hand through his hair] At this rate, with executions and wherever we go on Thursdays... we're all going to have to use it sooner or later.
