The casualty total ended up being about three percent of the entire world's population at the time, if I recall correctly. Fifty million or so in the conflict itself, and another twenty or thirty million from what you could consider "side effects".

The real irony of it was that World War I had originally been called "The War to End All Wars" twenty years earlier. Clearly they underestimated the human compulsion for conflict.
That's right.
This one did, at least, lead to the formation of an international organization that would promote cooperation and provide oversight. They're not incapable of learning... though they tend to forget those lessons over time as the events that prompted them fade into the past.

Well, this one's strictly focused on human-to-human conflict. It's not hidden from the public eye so much.

We do fight demons! Though there's no one text that ever got everything right, and they're all narrowly-focused products of their respective cultures. There's nothing about the Cat Sidhe in the Apocrypha, for instance, but they exist nonetheless.
Yes!
Among other things. Arias are exorcists who fight by reciting biblical verses, sutras, and so on. Other specialties fight with weapons or familiars.

If they can see demons in general, yes.
[ he also looks thoughtful for a moment. ]
I suppose someone could theoretically destroy a demon without even knowing they existed if they were to read from the Bible aloud in its presence, and by sheer coincidence manage to recite its specific death verse. ...But I think you can imagine how low the odds of that would be.

They aren't normally their preferred hangouts.

are you just asking this because you're curious how things work in his world compared to yours or did your exorcism training really suck... ]
...Gehenna is the demonic world, from which they originate and spend most of their time. Some are able to exist in Assiah, the human world, by possessing a host of some sort, though the more powerful the demon the more quickly the host body will break down.
Their preferred places in Assiah depend on the sort of the demon they are. Kin of the Kings of Earth and Insects, for example, might prefer wooded areas, and kin of the King of Water would naturally be most common around the sea, lakes, and so on.

They really just throw you out there without any basic knowledge, huh?
Interesting. Akuma is the Japanese word for demon... but they weren't any individual's creation in our case.
Is this Earl a demon himself?
