The real irony of it was that World War I had originally been called "The War to End All Wars" twenty years earlier. Clearly they underestimated the human compulsion for conflict.

This one did, at least, lead to the formation of an international organization that would promote cooperation and provide oversight. They're not incapable of learning... though they tend to forget those lessons over time as the events that prompted them fade into the past.

We do fight demons! Though there's no one text that ever got everything right, and they're all narrowly-focused products of their respective cultures. There's nothing about the Cat Sidhe in the Apocrypha, for instance, but they exist nonetheless.

I suppose someone could theoretically destroy a demon without even knowing they existed if they were to read from the Bible aloud in its presence, and by sheer coincidence manage to recite its specific death verse. ...But I think you can imagine how low the odds of that would be.

Their preferred places in Assiah depend on the sort of the demon they are. Kin of the Kings of Earth and Insects, for example, might prefer wooded areas, and kin of the King of Water would naturally be most common around the sea, lakes, and so on.

Nothing about demons from Gehenna though. The enemy we fight are called Akuma. They're an invention by the Millennium Earl, who's been around since Noah and the Great Flood.

Interesting. Akuma is the Japanese word for demon... but they weren't any individual's creation in our case.
