We do fight demons! Though there's no one text that ever got everything right, and they're all narrowly-focused products of their respective cultures. There's nothing about the Cat Sidhe in the Apocrypha, for instance, but they exist nonetheless.
I suppose someone could theoretically destroy a demon without even knowing they existed if they were to read from the Bible aloud in its presence, and by sheer coincidence manage to recite its specific death verse. ...But I think you can imagine how low the odds of that would be.
are you just asking this because you're curious how things work in his world compared to yours or did your exorcism training really suck... ]
...Gehenna is the demonic world, from which they originate and spend most of their time. Some are able to exist in Assiah, the human world, by possessing a host of some sort, though the more powerful the demon the more quickly the host body will break down.
Their preferred places in Assiah depend on the sort of the demon they are. Kin of the Kings of Earth and Insects, for example, might prefer wooded areas, and kin of the King of Water would naturally be most common around the sea, lakes, and so on.
[i can't emphasize how many people have joked with lavi who immediately took them seriously,
it's probably clear how little exorcism training Lavi has had because he looks awed and intrigued like he's hearing all of this for the first time, which he IS]
...Now I get why you guys need a school.
[imagine teaching exorcists anything in dgm except all the ways to die,]
Nothing about demons from Gehenna though. The enemy we fight are called Akuma. They're an invention by the Millennium Earl, who's been around since Noah and the Great Flood.
Could be, but I think he was human once. But whatever he is now... probably closer to a demon? He does hate God enough to want to destroy Him.
I've always wondered about the Akuma thing -- but I think that's because he established his base in Japan. He's been there for centuries, and no one's ever figured it out because the country's barred itself from foreigners.

Among other things. Arias are exorcists who fight by reciting biblical verses, sutras, and so on. Other specialties fight with weapons or familiars.

[Lavi has the expression of someone trying to imagine how that happens.]
...And they can only do that if they can see 'em?

[hehe... wait]
...I'd probably avoid churches and places of worship if I were a demon.

Is this Earl a demon himself?
