Ran into someone named Hope, who said she'd help us if we helped her escape. So we tried, and then the boss of the place showed up and said we could either save her or get information about the cult.
[he's not sure why he says it — not because he’s looking for absolution or because he wants to make excuses, that there was no way he’d put a strangers life over the small chance of finding more about the cult and a way out for him and kanda, that he’d been stupid enough to want to take a magical contract deal when it’s never worked out before]
But it was a group vote, so we ended up killing the boss and saving her.
[Lavi isn't Allen, after all. None of them particularly enjoy making these sorts of hard decisions--even Kanda tries not to cause unnecessary harm. But they are not saviors. Kanda likely wouldn't have had the patience for an ultimatum and would've tried to do both, but he's on Lavi's side.

ANYWAY. For a second, it seems like Lavi's about to ramble insanely again, but it starts making sense quickly enough that Kanda doesn't tune him out or hit him. Instead, he listens quietly, taking it in.
It's not a surprise, really? He would've done the same for Lavi, easily. He'd said as much to someone else, even, confident--He'd make sure my body got burned. It reminds him, again, of Lavi insisting he could've been lying, of the memory he'd seen, a man with no true name pieced together out of what humans respond to best.
He wonders if it bothers Lavi, to be known like this. He doesn't ask.]

They said I'd have to hear details from someone else, so--maybe whoever knows about that wrote the list.
[He thinks they're likely doing sneaky undercover work with some of their number, but he doesn't want to say that out loud because he doesn't know they're probably safe in PCs]
Lavi frowns at this, reminded that he hasn't been on the ball as much as he should have been this week........ though admittedly it was hard to talk about plot when being jumpscared by memories,]
Maybe they're the ones who found Kate's note too. Or maybe it's Kate who's doing the investigating.
