[Patpats his head one last time!! And then listens to the Lenalee lore... Wow what evil church would separate a brother and sister like that and make one sibling keep fighting on the front lines that's just wild.]
She sounds like a very strong person... [Said more with sympathy than admiration, though.] I can understand wishing for a better way of living for someone like that, especially if the two of you are close.
[From description alone, she sounds like a kind soul!! Someone who deserves a nice life!!]
...I'm afraid I don't really have a full picture of what you mean when you speak of the Order or Exorcists, though.
[YEAH... WHAT EVIL CHURCH WOULD DO THAT....... THINK ABOUT IT LUCAS.........
Lavi squints at Lucas like he knows what he's doing, but he also relents... for now]
The Black Order's an organization under the Church, created to fight the Millennium Earl and his army of Akuma. Thing is, only one material in the world can destroy Akuma, and that's Innocence -- and Innocence chooses its wielder. So even if it's not your decision, the Church takes you in and trains you to become an Exorcist.
...Without Exorcists, the Akuma will keep killing humans and the Earl will keep preying on humans to make more Akuma. So we're basically the only line of defense the world has.
[He ignores the squint. He does not see it...........
But it's fine because now he's genuinely distracted by how HORRIBLE this all sounds.]
...Are Akuma like demons? [Thinking back to what Karlach had said earlier, about how Kanda had pretty much attacked her on sight like a MANIAC.] If so, it sounds like your world is in a very scary state, indeed. Being selected against your will to fight such an enemy must surely put enormous amounts of pressure on a person.
[DON'T IGNORE HIS SQUINT!!! HE'S GONNA CIRCLE BACK TO YOU!!!! unfortunately he's also cursed by his bookman jr tendencies to always talk about Lore even though i want to explode him,
it's rare to hear someone think this -- about how the Exorcist must feel, and not about the myriad of other things, like how they're chosen by God to help save the world, or how they're near divine for the responsibilities they carry. it reminds Lavi that it really has been a while since he's met someone not affiliated with the Order, and now here he is with a whole town full.]
We all have different ways of coping. Like fighting to protect loved ones, or wanting to save the Akuma.
[which is wild but that's allen for ya]
They are demons, but they're victims too. The Earl promises to bring back someone you've lost in a new body -- the Akuma skeleton, and people say yes because they want to see their loved one again. Only the soul gets trapped in there instead, and then they're ordered to kill the person who called for them.
[STOP DON'T EXPLODE HIM WE'VE HAD ENOUGH EXPLOSIONS
Hilarious that he's out here being the opposite of the Church and people who worship the Church when he is just part of another, different church cult. But! It really does feel like something that would be a huge burdne to an outsider.]
Ah... [Well he'd been about to ask why anyone would want to save the Akuma BUT SURE GUESS THAT DOES IT.] ...Then, they're in a situation similar to us, are they not? Being trapped inside of themselves, harming others against their will...
