It's just me and my Gramps. He's a teacher too -- taught me everything I know, and he's still teaching me now. We're both part of the Bookman clan.

Kinda! We're historians, so we deal with books sometimes, but we're usually in the field so we can get firsthand accounts. There's only one Bookman at a time -- that's my Gramps right now. I'm his apprentice, and the rest of us support him in other ways.

He's a very sweet boy. He shows gratitude any time he feels it's due, perhaps even in situations where he doesn't need to feel so grateful...

In any case, his expression becomes a little more thoughtful at that, considering.]

More than anything, I believe it's because he views himself as burdensome.

…It’s hard to shake that kind of thing off. I know a friend who only managed it because she left everyone who made her feel that way.

[Unfortunately Mathis's problems will not be so easily solved but even Lucas isn't 100% aware of that despite knowing a lot of his issues stemmed from a murder he DEFINITELY DIDN'T COMMIT!!!!]

I'm glad that she was able to do so. It's taken Mathis time to start branching out, so in all honesty, I'm worried about the effects this whole situation may have... But it sounds as though people have been kind on a whole, which is all I can ask for.
